Kolky, Uktaine

My friends,
I’d love to share some photos from my trip back to motherland, Ukraine, where I was born and raised until 12 years old before moving to Russia. I haven’t been home to see my family for 6 years, and I must say that things did not change much since my last visit. Life is so peaceful and slow at Kolky. People are smiley and generously welcomed me into their home with tables full of delicious food. Definitely had varenyky (dumplings) overdose this time hehe. The colours of autumn are my favourite. The trees are almost entirely yellow with flickers of green creating a beautiful contrast. And how great are the houses and buildings! Every place has its own character.

the colour project

The idea for The Colourful People project evolved after appreciating how unique and unusual this Melbourne based sub-culture is compared to the rest of the world. I had not seen anything like this before and felt driven to capture these amazing people and share their artistic creativity with the rest of the world. It is beautiful to see how each artist uses patterns and massive amounts of colour to express themselves, something that I feel is lacking from the modern world. 

Over the last few years, I have photographed a selection of these talented beings. I want to understand why they are who they are, where their inspiration comes from, how they got started and what drives them every day to create amazing work. Through this process, I have discovered that they are all connected, which is even more exciting. 

This is a project that I have been working on for some time and I am super excited to finally be sharing it with you all. I will reveal one magical artist per week. I hope that you are inspired by these amazingly creative people as I have been. Let their colour and their sparkle bring light to your day :)
